CRS Fair Trade (#)
„When world coffee prices collapsed during the late 1990s, millions coffee farming households across the world experienced increased poverty, hunger and illness. In the most desperate cases, some household members made the difficult decision to migrate in search of work to capital cities already overburdened by rural migrants, or to the United States. In one particularly tragic incident, 14 migrants from the Mexican state of Veracruz died in the Arizona desert while trying to cross the U.S. border—most of them were coffee farmers who were unable to provide for their families with coffee prices at historic lows.“
