„Coffee is well known for containing caffeine, which is a mild central nervous system stimulant. Drinking coffee can therefore have positive effects on an individual's alertness and concentration so aiding better performance and this has been shown to be of benefit when an individual is feeling tired or lethargic. Strong evidence for the beneficial effects of regular caffeine consumption was shown using data from a cross-sectional survey of a sample of over 9000 British adults. Results showed regular coffee consumption improved cognitive performance (1).“

„It contains caffeine, which is a mild stimulant, and in many people coffee drinking enhances alertness, concentration and mental and physical performance. Although it contains a wide variety of substances, it is generally accepted that caffeine is responsible for many of coffee’s physiological effects. Because caffeine influences the central nervous system in a number of ways and because a small number of people may be particularly sensitive to these effects, some people have attributed all sorts of health problems to coffee. Caffeine is not recognised as a drug of abuse and there is no evidence for caffeine dependence.“

„Coffee is brewed from the seeds of the coffee plant. These "beans" contain caffeine, a stimulant known in chemical jargon as "trimethylxanthine," which also is found in cocoa beans and other naturally-occurring foods. In the case of caffeinated sodas, trimethylxanthine is added during processing. The caffeine level in coffee and tea is as varied as the response of people who drink them.“

„"Caffeine is the world's most commonly used stimulant, and it's cheap and readily available so people can maintain their use of caffeine quite easily," says Roland Griffiths, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry and neuroscience at Johns Hopkins. "The latest research demonstrates, however, that when people don't get their usual dose they can suffer a range of withdrawal symptoms, including headache, fatigue, difficulty concentrating. They may even feel like they have the flu with nausea and muscle pain."“
