CoffeeKid - Vacuum Brewer Hey Day (#)
„The Bodum model, the Santos, has been in constant production since the late 1950s, and is the most economical of the current brewers. In Asia (and especially Japan) vacuum brewing is still the preferred way of making coffee and there are several manufacturers there, including Hario, Yama, Tayli and others. Some of these devices are now being marketed in North America.“

„First, if the machine has a single heating element for both the hot plate and brewing water, chances are it won't heat the water hot enough. I'm not saying all of them do this - I own a Saeco Latte coffee brewer, one made the first year this product came to market, and it has a single heating element for water and hotplate, and is quite capable of a 194F brew. Saeco changed the machines for some time (or had quality control issues) and machines were rolling out of their assembly plant with anemic 175F or lower brewing temperatures. Recently, a vendor I trust says that the new crop does indeed brew hot again.“

„First up, I'm pretty jazzed to be getting a, of all brands, a Krups product soon. Yes, I said Krups! I'm not a fan of their coffee brewers (they brew too cold), but they have brought a Euro-product to the N. American market that is pretty damned cool - the Moka Brew coffee maker.“

„Brewing has challenges - if you don't use the machine frequently, you have temperature issues with the brew head. But you get amazing thermal stability on a well used machine because its a boiler full of brewing water, not just a heat exchanger which can fluctuate.“
