CoffeeKid - The Vacuum Brewer FAQ ()

„By the 1920s, Silex was making a good range of glass vacuum brewers, using cloth and metal filters, for the American market. By the 1930s, almost every other small appliance manufacturer was getting in on the game, including Farberware, Westinghouse, Sunbeam, General Electric, Cory, and many others. By the availability of these devices on eBay today, and the amount of advertisements that ran in ladies' magazines during the time between the 30s and the 50s, its a good guess that vacuum brewers enjoyed a huge market in the US, at least during one point in history.“

„Also see if you can test the machine's heat ability in store (or if the store has a good return policy, take it home to try out). You can do this by sticking a needle therm in the brew basket as it fills with hot water (grounds will slow down the flow), but that isn't a very accurate way of telling. Take a calibrated digital thermal reader measuring device (or find some engineering geek who will lend you one) and do proper temperature tests.“

„Had a very nifty phone call with one of the top guys at Rancilio North America, a relatively new organization that is primed to change Rancilio's North American representation for the better. Most of the convo was confidential, but what I can say is I was left with a very good feeling about where the company was headed, and exciting things are planned for Rancilio in the home and commercial market for the next few years. This news is also good for Canadians, as there is no longer a monopoly in Canada for Rancilio products - Rancilio N.A. is moving in.“

CoffeeKid - Are Vacuum Brewers Different? CoffeeKid - Are Vacuum Brewers Different?

„A few years ago I tried a blind taste test - I made about 20 ounces of coffee on the stove using a glass 5 cup Silex I own, and I used a cloth filter. I made 20 ounces of brew in a 5 cupper Hario Nouveau and the butane burner, and a cloth filter. Same stock of coffee, same grind, same kick up time, same brew time, same kick down time, as much the "same" as I could make it. I left the room and had my spouse pour me a cup from each.“

„First up, I'm pretty jazzed to be getting a, of all brands, a Krups product soon. Yes, I said Krups! I'm not a fan of their coffee brewers (they brew too cold), but they have brought a Euro-product to the N. American market that is pretty damned cool - the Moka Brew coffee maker.“

CoffeeKid - Vacuum Brewer Hey Day CoffeeKid - Vacuum Brewer Hey Day

„Having had drip coffee from some of the top machines in the industry, none of them (and I mean NONE) compare to the flavour, aroma, and taste I get from my vacuum brewers. Drip is not bad at all... good, and even great at times, but it doesn't compare to the pureness and complete, proper extraction you get from a vacuum brewer.“
