CoffeeKid - The Gaggia Years ()

„There were a few factors about this machine and my technique I should detail. Early on I could never get the amount of crema on top of my espresso shots that I got when I bought espresso locally - and forget the tons of crema I remembered from Italy! I tried everything but couldn't seem to make it happen. My shots ran pretty fast in this machine - about 13 seconds for a double shot.“

„This machine is essentially a Gaggia Classic (see midrange, below) without some of the premium stuff like the 3 way solenoid valve pressure release and better connections. This machine is a great chose for medium volume use in the home.“

„If you're into espresso, it's a sure fire way to almost guarantee 100% crema on all the shots you pull, good or bad. Fortunately, we have a few more roasting tools to choose these days, but there still isn't many on market - maybe the next few years will see an increase in consumer roasters.“

„Earlier I had an low budget steam driven espresso machine with which I just barely could make a decent cup of espresso with very thin crema. I then bought a Gaggia Tebe and it was another ballpark altogether, thick delicous crema without any trouble at all. After seven years my trustworhy Gaggia now has earned retirement and I´ve replaced it with a Pavoni Europiccola. An advice!“

CoffeeKid - The Espresso MiniFAQ CoffeeKid - The Espresso MiniFAQ

„There are many machines on the market today with "crema enhancing devices". These produce what I consider false crema, the type that dissipates rapidly and barely hangs to the side of your cup. I am also more and more convinced that they degrade the espresso beverage taste. I base this on my increasing experimentation and testing of espresso machines with crema enhancers in place.“
