„at first, from the very first load of beans, the grinder would clog when grinding on its finest setting. i had to constantly poke at the burr to get it to feed at all, and it would take at least a couple of minutes just to grind enough to fill the portafilter for my barista espresso machine. [don't do this.“

„To extract espresso properly it is essential to use a burr grinder and to grind per order. The two major types of burrs used are flat and conical. Conical burrs are desirable because they increase the surface area of each particle and the amount of flavor that can be extracted from the coffee. Since conical burrs have longer cutting edges, the burrs can rotate at lower speeds which reduces the heat created. Flat burrs should be replaced after 600 pounds of coffee have been ground and conical burrs should be replaced after 2000 pounds of coffee have been ground.“

„Plate grinders clog easily but make fairly even grinds. Burr grinders wear down eventually, but result in the most even grind in home devices. The ideal burr grinder is a hand-cranked unit, like the famous German brand Zassenhaus models. I have had bad luck with electric models that need constant care and cleaning, and tend to break anyway.“

„per cup and the burr grinder can be adjusted from fine to corse (have to do it while it's grinding, though and i believe the dial has 7 increments) and there is a separate intake for pre-ground so you can easily brew decaf (yuck) instead. there are adjustments for water hardness, alerts for decalcifying based on this, an included claris filter (which negates the need to decalcify) and a decent frother.“
