CoffeeGeek - Solis Maestro Review - Construction and Quality ()

„This means you have to redefine your tamping pressure to make up the difference. When you move to a grinder like the Rocky with its 80+ grind selections, or a Mini Mazzer with it’s stepless grind selections (infinitely selectable and lockable), you get much more room to play with just with the grinder, but given that this is a consumer grinder, allowances and small sacrifices have to be made.“

„You can make espresso from any roast, but only from the fine "espresso" grind. For home the best bets are semi-commercial models such as the Rancilio Rocky, Mazzer Mini, and the 'Gaggia 8002 MDF Burr Grinder with Doser, Black' . Careful: the Gaggia MM and similar grinders cannot produce the right grind for espresso..3rd: A High Quality Pump and Boiler Espresso Machine Third, you need an espresso machine like the 'Gaggia 35008 Carezza Espresso Machine, Silver' or 'FrancisFrancis! X3 Espresso Machine, Red' capable of consistently producing 200 degree water, pressured at 135 psi through the fine grind, all as well on the 500th attempt as on the first.“

It's All About Coffee It's All About Coffee

„No question that a Rocky or Mazzer-Mini will improve upon the Maestro when it comes to producing a consistent grind for that ultimate "shot." For the money, I think the Solis a very good machine, certainly head-and-shoulders above any grinders in the under-$200-range that I'm aware of. I'll be using the Maestro exclusively for drip after I get the new "Mazz," hopefully soon. (NOTE: The Mazzer Mini has arrived, but that’s a story for another time)“

„if you've done your research, you will quickly find out that a high quality coffee grinder is pretty much mandatory. Acceptable grinders for espresso would be the Solis Maestro, Rocky, Gaggia MDF, Mazzer, etc.  Colin will explore the grinder market in a future article.“

CoffeeGeek - Macap M5 Dosing Espresso Grinder CoffeeGeek - Macap M5 Dosing Espresso Grinder

„It's long been held (and rarely disputed) that the Mazzer Mini is the be all, end all grinder for espresso in the home. It's a full blown commercial grinder, slightly miniaturized so that it can fit into tight spots, and any serious espresso head knows that's the epitome of the perfect home espresso grinder - so much so it's overkill for most home enthusiasts.“

„Two machine setups: Machine station 1 had a single group La Marzocco Linea ($7,500) and a Mazzer Mini ($450) grinder, along with a Reg Barber professional tamper . Machine station 2 had a Francis! Francis X3 machine ($350) and a Rancilio Rocky grinder ($250) and a plastic, "stock" tamper with a crappy seam. Basically, the LM setup cost would buy you 13 Machine Station 2 setups.“
