CoffeeGeek - Saeco MC2002 Burr - Brendan Getchel's Review (#)
„I've had a good amount of experience with this grinder and have had it completely disassembled. I have also dealt with both ends of the coffee grinder spectrum, going from a Krups blade grinder, to a woefully inadequate (for anything espresso) La Pavoni PA-BURR grinder, to this Saeco MC2002, to the M1 Abrams Tank and "Mother of all Espresso Grinders", the Rancilio MD-50/AT, so I feel relatively competent to write a review of the MC2002.“

„I thought it would go well with my new Cuisinart Coffee Maker. It seems to take longer than my old Krups unit. If you overfill it simply won't grind the beans.“

„The timer shuts the grinder off automatically. These machines produce a more consistent grind than the cheaper electric blade grinders, they usually do not have to be fussed over while they grind, and they definitely do not need to be cranked by hand. You must be prepared, however, to clean the aperture for the ground coffee after every third or fourth use (some coffee stores sell a brush for this purpose; a small, stiff paintbrush works fine), and periodically open the grinder and clean the burrs. If you grind oily dark roasts, you may find that a brush is not enough for cleaning your grinder; you may have to literally carve the caked coffee from parts of your grinder when you carry out a major cleaning.“

„The next oldest is the millstone, updated to steel burrs or corrugated plates. The next is the roller mill, which is used only in giant commercial grinders. The most recent is the electric blade grinder, which works on the same principle as an electric blender.“

„Maybe we should bring up the the blade styled coffe grinder at these point. This type of coffee grinder is practically available in every houseware store in the world. The blade style coffe grinder works simply with two high speed spinning metal blades and a universal electric motor. The Blade type coffe grinder chops the beans up.“

„First I tried using my mother's whirly blade grinder which, she claims, "makes a finer grind than you could ever want." It was a disaster. I was getting my espresso shot in about 7 seconds instead of 25. In other words, it was coming out not as crema, and without much pressure, but as coffee. Second, I went to my local store, and used their professional grinder, which I set to "espresso" (the last click before "Turkish", which is the finest grind).“
