CoffeeGeek - Saeco Classico - Scott Griswold's Review

CoffeeGeek - Saeco Classico - Scott Griswold's Review ()

„ I had never used an expresso machine so I had to learn how much milk to add, how to get lots of foam and just the basic steps to follow.  I am using an expresso blend called Valos which is sold in Borders bookstores in their coffee shop, the expresso I make tastes as good as the expresso their commercial machine makes using the same coffee.  My only concern was that I found the steam wand to be a bit short, I wish it extend outward more from the unit with a longer wand, but even with this shortcoming the machine produces tons of steam which has given me more than enough steam.“

„ It took me a while to get the hang of it when I first got it years ago but after long periods of lack of use, I have to re-learn how to get it right each time.  I never could work the frother very well and stopped using it in preference of a stove-top frother I bought in Amsterdam (an extra step and more cleaning). Although the Gaggia has indicator lights for temperature, making multiple cups of espresso for entertaining was "iffy", at best, and often just useless to try. But, when everything goes right, it is superb.“

„I'm happy with my Capresso EspressoPro (~$250; I got it on sale for $200).  It makes good espresso using preground Lavazza or Illy with a minimal learning curve.  I'm not much of a milk fan so I haven't tried much along the cap/latte side, but I have verified it makes satisfactory mochas.“

„ If you just game it a little bit 8 cup setting with 6 cups water, or 10 cup setting with 6 cups water and play with the grinder setting, you can brew very strong coffee.  Not expresso mind you, but good strong coffee (I use Seattle Mtn. Coffee).  The grinder is loud if you standing in the kitchen, but what grinder isn't (the grounds are nicely ground and can be seen through the viewing port)?“

CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review

„ I was going to delay the purchase but I saw that the Daily Grind had dropped the price to $325 (The price had since just gone up to $345).  It may be odd to say, but I‘m glad that I worked my way up the expresso machine chain (Krups steam toy -$60; Krups pump toy -$100;  each busticated from use before being replaced).  I would have hated to have dropped the money on a Silvia and then find out that it didn‘t really matter to my quality of life -- spending money for the sake of spending money is a very expensive hobby.“
