„And guess what. Arabica beans are high in lipids - some 15% or more of their chemical content is made up of lipids of various sorts. Triglycerides make up the bulk - about 80% or so. Robusta, just for comparison sake, contains around 10% lipids, and sometimes much less (you'll see below why this is one factor in robusta's poorer taste).“

Most bulk coffee (think Folgers) is Robusta, and not considered specialty. The climate, farming, and processing of the country of origin can all affect the final result.“

Robusta coffee plants have higher yields than Arabica plants; in addition, they are stronger plants that grow at lower altitudes, enabling them to be mechanically harvested. For these reasons, Robusta coffee is cheaper to produce than the Arabica variety and so is also becoming increasingly popular among consumers in more price-sensitive countries, further eroding the market share for Arabica.“

„Vietnam is not suited for growing high quality Arabica coffee - it is too low in elevation for the most part, and too north of the equator. But robusta, the hardy version of the coffee tree that produces beans that are best described as "rubber burning" when tasting, could grow there, and did. There's good robusta, and not so good robusta - Vietnam had stuff that was just about the worst robusta you could grow.“
