CoffeeGeek - Regional: United States West, best espresso in CA? (#)
„ I make it up to the Bay Area a few times a year and always have to make a pilgrimage here. What this place lacks in character, it makes up for with probably the best espresso I've had in the states. I've been here probably 10 times in the last 4 or 5 years, and everytime, its the same couple of unassuming looking hispanic baristas behind the counter slinging some insanely good shots without even trying. anyone who says there's no good espresso in Berkeley hasn't been here.“

„ I can't really see how it is possible a rock can make its way into the grinder. I guess a rock could tag along in those huge burlap coffee bags and then into your 1lb bag to take home...“

„ The mixture will sit in the top for 30-60 seconds and then briskly filter to the bottom. I immediately pour the finished coffee into a previously warmed thermal Alfi carafe. Several caveats: the amount of coffee and the "right" grind will vary with each type and purveyor of coffee (it usually takes me a day or two to get it right if trying some new coffee). As a general rule, darker, oilier coffees will require coarser grinding, or the filter may clog.“

„Stop by your favorite roaster and ask to taste their decaf coffees. Usually they are quite willing to share their knowledge. If you are in the bay area, call either of the following numbers to find the Peet's or Starbucks nearest you.“

„LONG BEACH, CA - The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) supports the efforts of Oxfam International to raise awareness of the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the current crisis on coffee farmers world-wide. The long-term viability of the specialty coffee industry is dependent upon the sustainability of those who produce high-quality coffee. For this reason, it is in the best interest of specialty coffee roasters and retailers to build long-term relationships that provide fair prices to coffee producers.“
