CoffeeGeek - Regional: Eastern Canada, Fabulous espresso blend in Toronto! (#)
„The best cappa I've has so far is at b Espresso (I mean besides my place)...and oddly enough, they used Illy beans. I would never buy them, because you are right...they are not worth the money...$36/lb...that's absurd. Illy is the only company that's been able to package beans roasted a "while" ago AND market their name as upscale....“

„illycaffè purchases only Arabica beans for its blend and sorts the beans using electronic instruments which evaluate the color and automatically reject beans that are either too green or overripe. About 50 coffee beans are needed to produce one cup of espresso, and only one bad bean can ruin its flavor. In order to better balance the aroma, illycaffè prepares the blend from nine different lots of Arabica before roasting and uses an air cooling system versus the more common water cooling system.“

„The illycaffè blend is obtained by carefully selecting from different sources the best Arabica beans, which have a richer taste and lower caffeine content than the less-prized (and less expensive) Robusta beans.“

„I'm happy with my Capresso EspressoPro (~$250; I got it on sale for $200). It makes good espresso using preground Lavazza or Illy with a minimal learning curve. I'm not much of a milk fan so I haven't tried much along the cap/latte side, but I have verified it makes satisfactory mochas.“
