CoffeeGeek - Press Pots - Small - Robert Epps's Review ()

„I was reading the last posted review while sipping a cup of home-roasted, french-pressed coffee, and just had to post my two cents. I find french-press coffee to be the best tasting coffee there is, matching or even surpassing what you can make with an expensive espresso machine. French-press coffee is strong, but the true flavors of the beans are brought out more fully, without the bitterness of strong coffee made other ways. (Remember, if you don't like your coffee strong, you will end up with much better tasting "weak" coffee if you brew it strong and water it down with water just off the boil, rather than brewing it with more water and/or less coffee.)“

„These grounds are not filtered by the French-press filter and thus end up in the cup. A cup of French-pressed coffee with be noticeably fuller, with much more body, and often with more flavor, it will often also have the tell-tale sediment at the bottom of the cup.“

„Darker roasts will have less inherent flavor from the beans, but more body and carbon taste. The basic distinctions from light to dark are Cinnamon, City Roast, Italian Roast, and French Roast. Beans destined for espresso are usually roasted dark. Each roaster will rate the darkness by their own criteria and give it a name.“

„The rest of the supermarkets do not sell unground espresso roasts as "espresso" at all; you could find "French" roast and it would be the only one "espresso-like". The ground espresso will be something cheap, the most expensive from them being Cafe Bustelo or such.“

„I have a Fresh roast plus 8 .If you have a decent exhaust fan in your kitchen you may get away with the FR+8. It does produce some smoke but you may also want to open a window if nearby.“

„ It is very Coffeegeek.  If you’re communing with the inner circle of Coffeegeeks, sure fly the freak flag high, but the rest of the time please keep your card carrying ristretto membership in your pocket.  Stop the insanity.  You’re only hurting yourself.“
