CoffeeGeek - Members: Coffee Recipes, SERENDIPITY FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE ()

„Serendipity 3 is an absurdly popular wall-to-wall kitsch restaurant in Manhattan, and one of their runaway successes is their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.  I've been there, and it's a fun place, but the desserts are more about quantity than quality.  You can purchase their Frrrozen Hot Chocolate mix or try the published recipe , but you're better off just making a really good milkshake, putting it in a dish with whipped cream on top, and calling it frozen hot chocolate.“

CoffeeGeek - Francis! Francis! X5 - A Johnson's Review

„again makes a lovely espresso and I couldn't be more pleased.  I'm currently using Cafe Lusso (Redmond, WA) espresso blend - the best i've found anywhere.  A note of caution for X5 users - though the manual doesn't mention it, after steaming you are supposed to immediately run a blank shot or two through the grouphead to refill the boiler. You'll know you've run enough when the steam stops pouring out of the grouphead.“

„ The others drink the cheap stuff.... Mom & Dad used to drink Hills Bros., using about 2-3 scoops for 10 cups.  It looked like a light rust in the cup.  I had a "somewhat" different taste for coffee (using whole beans in Cal.)...“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: General Discussion, Naked PID'ed La Marzocco Xmas present

„ It is VERY easy to tell a 2 degree F difference on the set point of the PID in the cup.  I'm guessing that Marzocco has a reason for the way theirs are set up, perhaps it is preferable for a commercial environment.  Honestly I have no idea.  All I do know is that you should be able to have it set up in such a way that every time you hit the button to brew, you should be able to get the same temp in the portafilter.“

CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review

„ It took me a while to get the hang of it when I first got it years ago but after long periods of lack of use, I have to re-learn how to get it right each time.  I never could work the frother very well and stopped using it in preference of a stove-top frother I bought in Amsterdam (an extra step and more cleaning). Although the Gaggia has indicator lights for temperature, making multiple cups of espresso for entertaining was "iffy", at best, and often just useless to try. But, when everything goes right, it is superb.“

CoffeeGeek - Macap M5 Dosing Grinder - Joe Beets's Review

„doserless, and it was a consideration for me since my house isn't an especially high-volume operation.  In fact, though, the doser is very convenient, and the MACAP sweeps it quite clean.  I only grind as much as I'll use in a session (3-4 servings) and the doser works fine.  I suspect that it's neater than a doserless grinder; if you don't slam the doser lever back and forth Iron Barista-style the grinds drop more or less straight down into the portafilter.“
