CoffeeGeek - Hand Mills - Other - John Boddie's Review (#)
„There are a number of Turkish mills available in the market. If you're shopping for one make sure it has the words Kahve Degirmeni (Coffee grinder/mill). There are pepper mills that look very similar to the coffee mills.“

„That grinder everyone mentions is the Rancilio MD40 Commercial grinder. This is no home toy - it's a a full commercial grade grinder, built from the ground up to grind literally thousands of pounds of coffee. And while it's true the Rocky does borrow some parts from the MD40 (namely the motor), the commercial grinder leaves the Rocky in the dust when it comes to the rest of the machine.“

„It's not surprising, since their N. American marketshare for espresso grinders has been limited until recently, and they don't just make coffee equipment (they make things like juicers and blenders as well, to name a few). The company is very famous in Italy, and is often seen by many as the only legit contender to Mazzer's fame and quality build of products.“

„The alteration to Schomer's techniques are to use the plastic tamper built into the Moka 90 grinder (a tamper that requires an upward force on the portafilter) to compact the grind and create enough space so that about 24 grams can be held in the 3X basket. The exact amount of grind will depend upon the timing numbers that are generated with the pulled shot or pour. Once there is 24 grams or so in the 3X basket, one will immediately notice the unevenness of the puck with visible air spaces.“

„Still like this grinder after a year. Have begun to realize at this point just how much work it is to grind coffee by hand - wouldn't want to do it every day, but for travel coffee and power outages, it's hard to beat!“
