CoffeeGeek - Gaggia Classic Machine - Gray Mason's Review (#)
„When I was shopping for my machine, I thought I'd be using ESE pods much of the time. Since then, I've started roasting my own coffee beans in a hot air popper. The freshly roasted beans make much better espresso, and I've left the Illy can of pods unopened.“

„Now I need to decide if it is worthwhile to evangalize the fresh roasted coffee experience into a part-time roasting business. The key to sucess is good supliers of green beans and a bigger roaster. Anyone have any ideas?“

„We just don't have the volume to keep everytyhing fresh, nor the time to grind or roast or do some of the rituals around espresso. The pods are made in Italy, fresh roasted beans, ground just right, immediately pressed into a cake, packed in nitrogen so no aging and deliver a consistent cup of product. “

„Personally, I drink 1 pound a coffee a week. If green beans average $5 a pound and commercially roasted coffee averages $10 a pound then it will take 26 weeks for machine to pay for itself. The popcorn popper solution is still the cheapest, but if you are like me, living in a cold winter environment, then having an indoor Roaster like Precision is a real treat.“

„Green, unroasted, coffee beans generally cost half the price of what you would pay for the same kind of bean roasted. If you are an avid coffee drinker, you can really save money by roasting your own. Furthermore, unlike homebrewing kits or bread machines, you don't have to make a large equipment investment.“

„Starting in the current fiscal year, Tully’s is roasting coffee beans in Japan to take advantage of the lower import tariffs for raw beans than those for roasted beans, reckoning that this approach will reduce purchase costs by about 10%.“
