„I'm still enthusiastic about the Freshroast Plus, and stand by all the comments I've made. But a little disclosure is in order: I really enjoy home roasting and probably qualify as a "hobbyist" The FR is a simple machine, and can easily be modified with dimmers, variable transformers, roasting chamber extensions, thermometers, etc; so it's ideal for someone like me. It'll also work OK as a set it/forget it roaster, but if that's really your wish -- grab a few Hearthware precisions before they're all gone.“

„If you want to roast your own, then go for a light roast. The final roasting is done in the Cezve, so if your roast is already too dark you are not going to get the right effect. Remember, the lighter the roast, the more acidic the coffee and the higher the caffeine content. So you should experment a bit to determine what you like best.“

„Here's why. I've compared its weak points (noted above) w/comparable machines (such as the Livia) and noted that the Mininova actually is a bit better in those areas. I started roasting my own coffee and that has _greatly_ improved the quality of the coffee I'm making here at home. I have also played around a bit with the pressurestat of the Mini--lowering it a bit to prevent burning.“

„The easiest entry into home roasting is afforded by small devices called "fluidized bed" machines that roast about three to five ounces of coffee in anywhere from three to eight minutes, using a powerful current of hot air that roars up through the beans, simultaneously roasting and agitating them. All of these little devices incorporate a timing switch, and all permit you to watch the beans while they roast to gauge their changing color. At around $60 the Fresh Roast is the least expensive and the fastest roasting.“

„It seems only fair that the roasting company that, in popular mythology at least, is most identified with dark roasting ought to appear in this review even if the particular coffee from that company up for review didn't quite nudge its way over 80. In fact, Starbucks has moderated its roast style considerably in recent years, and its featured single-origin coffees typically are roasted much lighter than many coffees produced by its competitors. And John, at least, felt that the reviewed Starbucks blend could have been helped by an even darker roast style. Thus the main problem with the Starbucks blend reviewed here was not over roasting, but what appeared to be a listless green coffee roasted without much sensitivity.“
