CoffeeGeek - Espresso: General Discussion, Starbucks goes Superauto!!!!???? (#)
„In Vancouver, which has a healthy dose of Starbies locations, I only know of two or three with the Black and Whites, and all are new locations or mall locations. Existing stores still happily chug away on the LM machines, and continue to get new LM machines when their old ones die out (rare) or need major service.“

„I also had some quality coffee to use - I was receiving regular "care packages" from my partner Vancouver and in those packages were a couple of pounds of coffee from Intelligentsia Coffee . I was able to test the machine with La Perla from Mexico, several Nicaraguans, a very tasty Tanzanian Peaberry and even some Black Cat espresso blend, which will do in a pinch on a drip brew machine.“

„We take the green coffee that we normally use in Black Cat, blend it green and send it to the Swiss Water Company in Vancouver. They decaffeinate the green coffee for us and send it back. We then roast it as a blend.“

„Home roasting is such a tiny part of the market that nobody caters to it other than mail order suppliers. Whole Foods, a new high end supermarket, just opened in West Van, featuring a roaster and a large assortment of green beans that are not priced, so it looks like you can only buy them roasted. I wouldn't buy them anyway, except that I was out of Brazil stock at the time, so I was looking... The beans were quite generic looking, maybe one step up from Safeway.“

„Speaking of Illy Cups, another couple of small business owners I know from Vancouver Island (Victoria to be precise) also sent along a Christmas present not only for me, but also for CoffeeGeek readers.“

„Next week I’ll give a little insight into the wasteland of Vancouver. “Coffee shops are everywhere, great coffee is nowhere.” You can’t teach people what they think they already know. Welcome to my life.“
