CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Espresso Blends, What bean/blend would you suggest? ()

„ I've tried numerous brand from the grocery store, Starbucks, and a few online retailers.  I usually come back to JBM from Jablum (Mavis Bank).  It runs $28/lb with shipping.  And, I'm not sure that it's really worth it.“

„If you like Hines' espresso, I would also recommend the shots at Lighthouse Roasters in Fremont (everyone seems to overlook them), Vita (Capitol Hill),  and Zoka in Greenlake (but $2.05 a shot !) A person can do a nice loop through the city, starting at Lighthouse, then across to Zoka, down to Hines, then up to Vita (and Vivace, Victrola, Messiah, etc. if desired)“

CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review

„ I was going to delay the purchase but I saw that the Daily Grind had dropped the price to $325 (The price had since just gone up to $345).  It may be odd to say, but I‘m glad that I worked my way up the expresso machine chain (Krups steam toy -$60; Krups pump toy -$100;  each busticated from use before being replaced).  I would have hated to have dropped the money on a Silvia and then find out that it didn‘t really matter to my quality of life -- spending money for the sake of spending money is a very expensive hobby.“

„ And I like the boiler for its quick heating, fast recovery and the ability to quickly clear stale water from the boiler from the day before, just because of the small capacity.  I'm just careful to use the right cleaner on the aluminum boiler (Cleancaf).“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: General Discussion, Naked PID'ed La Marzocco Xmas present

„ It is VERY easy to tell a 2 degree F difference on the set point of the PID in the cup.  I'm guessing that Marzocco has a reason for the way theirs are set up, perhaps it is preferable for a commercial environment.  Honestly I have no idea.  All I do know is that you should be able to have it set up in such a way that every time you hit the button to brew, you should be able to get the same temp in the portafilter.“
