CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Espresso Blends, Help with Cuban roasts (#)
„I've been hooked on the stuff for a long time, usually either Bustelo or Pilon beans, which are unfortunately only to be found in stores whole-bean but sealed lord knows how long ago. I've tried a lot of local roasts, mostly medium espresso blends, but haven't found anything to match the kick of Cuban espresso. I grew up in Miami and moved up to New England, so I'm trying to find any good way to get that same style I had back home, but fresh.“

„Wow, unfortunately they don't recommend it for espressomachines. And I have nothing else to try it.“

„ It's almost always right at 4 minutes with this combination in the Hario. I was able to increase extraction time to about 3 minutes by grinding the beans much finer, just under the espresso setting on the Solis, but this tended to plug the Royal's filter on occasion, and always resulted in more sediment in the cup than I ideally prefer. I realize this "problem" of short extraction times can be compensated for by increasing the amount of coffee used, but this shouldn't be necessary. I focused my efforts on two things: filter height and burner shut-off time.“

„The best cappa I've has so far is at b Espresso (I mean besides my place)...and oddly enough, they used Illy beans. I would never buy them, because you are right...they are not worth the money...$36/lb...that's absurd. Illy is the only company that's been able to package beans roasted a "while" ago AND market their name as upscale....“

„Cuban coffee from Andrew, eh? I don't think I've ever had Cuban beans. I'll have to order some of that.“

„In Denver, you can try Kaladi Brothers on Evans, just west of DU. That's where I buy my beans. I've also heard that Pablo's on 6th Ave.“
