CoffeeGeek - Cunill Grinders - All - Stephen Smith's Review

CoffeeGeek - Cunill Grinders - All - Stephen Smith's Review ()

„The unit works like a champ,  seems rock solid and I figure I'll probably be leaving it to somebody in my will.   Other posters know alot more about this class of grinder that I, but I would suggest that the Cunill brand, in general, looks like a pretty good bet. The only vendors I've come across for this specific model seem to be commercial suppliers. A new Tauro goes for $465.“

„I scanned the Web and found that there is a superior type of grinder called a "burr" grinder. Burr grinders are better than the spinning blade grinders because the bean goes through the grinder only one time. The beans are loaded into one compartment, proceed through a blade mechanism, and the grounds are then dispersed into a second compartment. This produces a more even grind.“

„The timer shuts the grinder off automatically. These machines produce a more consistent grind than the cheaper electric blade grinders, they usually do not have to be fussed over while they grind, and they definitely do not need to be cranked by hand. You must be prepared, however, to clean the aperture for the ground coffee after every third or fourth use (some coffee stores sell a brush for this purpose; a small, stiff paintbrush works fine), and periodically open the grinder and clean the burrs. If you grind oily dark roasts, you may find that a brush is not enough for cleaning your grinder; you may have to literally carve the caked coffee from parts of your grinder when you carry out a major cleaning.“

„Good espresso at home: to even hope for a decent result one must spend about $200 - $225 for an espresso machine and about $175 to $275 for a grinder. If you go much cheaper than that you're better off getting a Moka pot (aka stove-top "espresso-maker"). Good moka coffee ain't the same as good espresso but it's way better than bad espresso.“
