CoffeeGeek - Cuisinart Brew Central - Robert Jason's Review (#)
„The manual (yes, I RTFM) states that a MAXIMUM of 15 scoops of ground coffee per brew cycle can be used). I then carefully measured out 12 scoops (using Cuisinarts provided scoop, I guess around 6 grams per scoop) of the freshly ground, 2 day rested Yrg, and dumped this into the supplied permanent gold filter (You may also use a #4 paper filter). I figured with the slightly smaller scoop then my 7.25 gram scoop, I'd cut back the water amount a cup, thus 11 cups of water rather than 12. Cuisinart actually recommends 12 scoops/12 cups, but we like our brew a bit stronger.“

„With a HOT machine and a filter basket filled with FRESH grounds, I pull 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of THICK CREMA containing espresso in a time period of 25-30 seconds. (YES, I do use a scoop to measure 14 - 16 grams of coffee, I do use a graduated glass container for the espresso extraction when creating a cappuccino/ latte, and I do use the timer on my Timex wristwatch to time the extraction period.)“

„ The others drink the cheap stuff.... Mom & Dad used to drink Hills Bros., using about 2-3 scoops for 10 cups. It looked like a light rust in the cup. I had a "somewhat" different taste for coffee (using whole beans in Cal.)...“

„ I fixed it, but he got to it again, and the water leaked and it shorted out. I need my coffee in the AM and I rushed over to Macy's and got a Cuisinart Grind and Blend (DGB-500BK)for $99, marked down from $150. I have not opened it up, but I now see that it uses a flat filter and not a cone filter. I had thought a cone filter is better?“

„ It took me a while to get the hang of it when I first got it years ago but after long periods of lack of use, I have to re-learn how to get it right each time. I never could work the frother very well and stopped using it in preference of a stove-top frother I bought in Amsterdam (an extra step and more cleaning). Although the Gaggia has indicator lights for temperature, making multiple cups of espresso for entertaining was "iffy", at best, and often just useless to try. But, when everything goes right, it is superb.“

„ I was going to delay the purchase but I saw that the Daily Grind had dropped the price to $325 (The price had since just gone up to $345). It may be odd to say, but I‘m glad that I worked my way up the expresso machine chain (Krups steam toy -$60; Krups pump toy -$100; each busticated from use before being replaced). I would have hated to have dropped the money on a Silvia and then find out that it didn‘t really matter to my quality of life -- spending money for the sake of spending money is a very expensive hobby.“
