CoffeeGeek - Coffee: Questions and Answers, Have you ever had a good cup from a perculator? ()

„The Corning Ware perculators were recalled because the handles could detach, spilling hot coffee on the user.  I decided to keep it because it was a gift.  They offered other Corning Ware products to replace it and discontinued it.“

CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review

„ It took me a while to get the hang of it when I first got it years ago but after long periods of lack of use, I have to re-learn how to get it right each time.  I never could work the frother very well and stopped using it in preference of a stove-top frother I bought in Amsterdam (an extra step and more cleaning). Although the Gaggia has indicator lights for temperature, making multiple cups of espresso for entertaining was "iffy", at best, and often just useless to try. But, when everything goes right, it is superb.“

„ The real test of a vendor is how it responds when something goes wrong.  So far, in all of my purchases from Chris' Coffee Service, nothing has gone wrong.  I therefore have not tested Chris' Coffee's sterling reputation for customer service.“

CoffeeGeek - Gaggia Classic Machine - Damian Copeland's Review

„I‘d been using a £65 Krupps (toy) machine for a while, and it just basically fell to bits.  The basket on the Classic weighs more than the whole Krupps machine, it‘s that solid.  I tried about a dozen other machines before I bought this, and I reckon for the price it must be hard to beat.“

CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review

„ I was going to delay the purchase but I saw that the Daily Grind had dropped the price to $325 (The price had since just gone up to $345).  It may be odd to say, but I‘m glad that I worked my way up the expresso machine chain (Krups steam toy -$60; Krups pump toy -$100;  each busticated from use before being replaced).  I would have hated to have dropped the money on a Silvia and then find out that it didn‘t really matter to my quality of life -- spending money for the sake of spending money is a very expensive hobby.“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Questions and Answers, How many beans in the hopper / How much grind in the doser? CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Questions and Answers, How many beans in the hopper / How much grind in the doser?

„ You should be grinding one drink at a time (single or double), and preparing that drink.  I weigh my beans on a digital scale, grind, and immediately extract them.  The only time beans ever go into my hopper is if I am entertaining and making a lot of drinks.  At that point I let the doser do its job and measure the quantity for each shot.“
