CoffeeGeek - Bodum Santos Electronic - George Swanson's Review (#)
„The burner doesn't cook the hell out of the coffee. I normally take it off immediately and put the coffee in a glass thermal pot after brewing. I have left it on the burner and for an hour or so and it hasn't ruined the coffee, so that's a plus. The carafe also doesn't dribble all over the place when you pour like some other coffee makers I've used.“

„ Machines that use only one element for warming and brewing often don't have enough juice for hitting this brew temperature. I measured the temperature of the water coming out of the Villaware and it is 197F. I had real hopes that this would be the case because of the dual heating elements and it is!“

„It does let you down in terms of being a "cappuccino machine", because of a long draw time between brewing and steaming (I do not recommend steaming first, then cycling the machine down to brew a shot - it takes almost as long, and can use half a reservoir of water in the process). But with that said, the actual steam performance of the Zaffiro was superb once the machine is heated up properly.“

„While I've always enjoyed press pot coffee, I've never liked the gritty taste near the bottom of the cup. I tried other alternatives to stock filters, such as nylon filter disks placed in line with existing filters, but was never satisfied that they substantially improved the situation. And they added more complexity and difficulty in cleaning. I thought I was doomed to gritty coffee unless I had the energy to drag out one of the vac pots.“

„ And logically, this makes sense. When coffee houses use this technique they are brewing much more than 50 ounces of coffee, so although the water passes over the grounds quickly it does so with sufficient volume to fully extract all the oils from the coffee. In a sense it is like a french press or vac pot; so much water passes over the grounds that they are almost constantly steeped in hot water. This is definitely not the case with the home model and its abbreviated brewing schedule.“

„I've made one pot of coffee in it, but am unsure at what point the coffee is finished. Unlike modern percolators, this does not automatically switch to a warming mode, it just keeps heating.“
