„Darker roasts will have less inherent flavor from the beans, but more body and carbon taste. The basic distinctions from light to dark are Cinnamon, City Roast, Italian Roast, and French Roast. Beans destined for espresso are usually roasted dark. Each roaster will rate the darkness by their own criteria and give it a name.“

„At Peet's, we specialize in deep roasted coffees. But "darkest" is not always "richest." French is our darkest roast, followed by Italian. These blends both have prominent smoky or "roasty" notes. All Peet's coffees are deep roasted.“

„The rest of the supermarkets do not sell unground espresso roasts as "espresso" at all; you could find "French" roast and it would be the only one "espresso-like". The ground espresso will be something cheap, the most expensive from them being Cafe Bustelo or such.“

„in the making, and a concerted effort over the past month. It's called Sweet Maria's Puro Scuro Blend (Italian: Pure Dark) and is for the Vienna roast range; best in a French Press, but a compelling espresso too! See our Green Coffee Offering page for the links to the reviews. NOTE: I made a mistake and forgot to make these items "active" in the shopping cart.“

„One, the Eight O'Clock Bean Coffee Dark Roast, was strikingly inexpensive at 23 cents an ounce but as decent a version of the extreme dark-roast profile as many specialty French roasts that sell for twice as much. The same low-grade, musty coffees may inhabit this bag as fill the red bags of the medium-roast "original" Eight O'Clock Bean Coffee reviewed earlier, but aggressive dark-roasting does wonders for low-grade Indonesia coffees, as many a specialty roaster knows. At 32 cents per ounce, the Trader Joe's French Roast was more expensive than the Eight O'Clock Bean Dark Roast but even more intense in its bittersweet expression.“

„Graffeo, a small second-generation Italian roaster identified with SanFrancisco and particularly known for its dark roast, produced an impressive, uncompromisinglymedium-roasted blend simply called Graffeo Light. Mozart's Coffee Roasters of Austin Texasshowed a fine, sweet, light-roasted blend. And the excellent medium-roasted Millstone ColombiaSupremo is available in supermarkets all over the country.“
