CoffeeGeek - Astra Gourmet G - Gregory Scace's Review ()

„ But I couldn't froth milk while steaming, and steaming milk upset the Silvia’s temperature equilibrium, requiring a lengthy period for the Silvia to recover.  I knew that the double boiler concept was inherently superior to single boiler or single boiler with heat exchanger machines, but I didn't like various aspects of two small double boiler machines currently on the market and I couldn't afford a LaMarzocco 1 group.  So I decided to keep my eyes open for the next best thing - a single boiler heat exchanger machine intended for commercial service.  I didn't want to go the Isomac route, or buy any of the other e-61 machines since they all had small boilers and rather anemic heaters by pro machine standards.“

„I'm happy with my Capresso EspressoPro (~$250; I got it on sale for $200).  It makes good espresso using preground Lavazza or Illy with a minimal learning curve.  I'm not much of a milk fan so I haven't tried much along the cap/latte side, but I have verified it makes satisfactory mochas.“

CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review CoffeeGeek - Nespresso Espresso Machines - J R's Review

„ It took me a while to get the hang of it when I first got it years ago but after long periods of lack of use, I have to re-learn how to get it right each time.  I never could work the frother very well and stopped using it in preference of a stove-top frother I bought in Amsterdam (an extra step and more cleaning). Although the Gaggia has indicator lights for temperature, making multiple cups of espresso for entertaining was "iffy", at best, and often just useless to try. But, when everything goes right, it is superb.“

CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review CoffeeGeek - Rancilio Silvia - Chris's Review

„ I was going to delay the purchase but I saw that the Daily Grind had dropped the price to $325 (The price had since just gone up to $345).  It may be odd to say, but I‘m glad that I worked my way up the expresso machine chain (Krups steam toy -$60; Krups pump toy -$100;  each busticated from use before being replaced).  I would have hated to have dropped the money on a Silvia and then find out that it didn‘t really matter to my quality of life -- spending money for the sake of spending money is a very expensive hobby.“

CoffeeGeek - Technivorm Clubline - All - James McNab's Review CoffeeGeek - Technivorm Clubline - All - James McNab's Review

„ I ignored this part of the manual because when you turn the machine on to brew the coffee, the hot plate is also turned on to a lower setting.  There is an optional switch that may also be turned on once the machine is brewing that heats the hot plate up to full capacity.  I was originally contemplating the thermal carafe model of the Clubline but was led to this model by Cheryl at Boyd's.  She mentioned that the thermal carafe with the Clubline isn't anywhere near as good as some of the thermal carafes on the market today.“

„The BrewStation looked intriguing, and I almost bought one (for $59.95).  But the internal coffee reservoir is PLASTIC!“
