CoffeeGeek - An Espresso Glossary ()

„Ristretto: literally, a “restricted” shot. Most double espresso shots are 2.5 to 3 ounces using 14 or more grams of coffee grounds. A ristretto uses the same volume (or dose) of grinds, but the operator pours only about 1.5 ounces (ore less) of espresso in the normal brewing time of 25 to 30 seconds. A ristretto is a richer beverage, much more intense, but also much harder to brew properly.“

„ If the bottom 1/8 of your cup was filled I would think you have a problem, if it's just a few then it's nothing to worry about.  Also don't go dumping coffee grounds into the water tank (accident I won't make again!)  That was a source of coffee grounds in the cup for a while, until I ran 2 full tanks through the system to clean everything out!!  When I diasemble teh grouphead I also take a wet rag anc clean out the group head gasket.“

„After the proper grind is found, it places exactly 7 grams, the required amount for one cup of espresso, into the holder. This Briel also gives a lot of control over the final product, due in part to its Auto Espresso Flow system. This system lets the coffee strength be set according to taste--from a strong, Italian-style short cup to a larger, less-robust brew. The espresso is brewed at the required 190 degrees F, and the machine has 15 bars of pump pressure.“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: General Discussion, Definitive moments in your espresso-odyssey!! CoffeeGeek - Espresso: General Discussion, Definitive moments in your espresso-odyssey!!

„I've been drinking coffee since I was about 14 or so (24 now), but it was always a very casual experience with little appreciation for the brew (because there was little to appreciate, believe me!) My town didn't even get a Starbucks until a few years ago, so my first experience with espresso and espress-based drinks was at some of the local shops.  I was around 16 when I first experienced espresso, but I wasn't intrigued; looking back with what I know now it was a really bad experience.  I developed an affinity for a cappa or a latte, and that became my drink of choice for many years; it was something I took time out of my day, every day, to enjoy.“

„Doesn't that alter the flavor between a single and a double? In another word, if I order 2 cups of espresso ristretto, one for me and one for my wife, you will use the 14 gram basket, but if I order a double espresso just for me, you will use the 21 gram triple basket?“
