CoffeeGeek - A Tale of Five Tampers (#)
„The tamper in this roundup I've been using the longest is the Ergo Tamper - it has about a year on the next closest competitor, the aluminum Espresso Parts tamper, and for the longest time I thought I found the tamper that was ideal for me - that being the Ergo Tamper. But the opportunity to try all these different models has found a new 'favourite' for me. Here's my thoughts on each tamper:“

„"Thermoblock" technology means that the water is heated in a multi channel metal block with an exterior element. The total volume of water inside the block at any given time is small, no more than 10ml, and the theory is that heating the block via an external element and pushing the water through at a set flow rate will produce the correct water temperature. In practice the first water touching the coffee is too hot and the rest usually too cool.“

„I've been drinking coffee since I was about 14 or so (24 now), but it was always a very casual experience with little appreciation for the brew (because there was little to appreciate, believe me!) My town didn't even get a Starbucks until a few years ago, so my first experience with espresso and espress-based drinks was at some of the local shops. I was around 16 when I first experienced espresso, but I wasn't intrigued; looking back with what I know now it was a really bad experience. I developed an affinity for a cappa or a latte, and that became my drink of choice for many years; it was something I took time out of my day, every day, to enjoy.“

„Around 40 machines make espresso with the proprietary Nespresso capsules. These machines gain in ease of use, but cost much more to operate, day to day, than a traditional machine, or even a pod machine.“

„They told me that a typical Italian espresso tastes like a good double espresso from the Torrefazione coffee house chain in the USA. To me that means that Italian espressos are not good because the best espresso from Torrefazione is bad compared to the best of Barefoot, Stumptown, Vivace, Zoka, Hines, Vita etc. (Note: these folks were taking about the 2004 Torrefazione).“
