CoffeeGeek - A reluctant admission, I don't hate Starbucks

CoffeeGeek - A reluctant admission, I don't hate Starbucks ()

„Heck even when the Italians did put milk in the coffee it was this warm silky liquid that added to the flavor of the coffee rather than just diluting it to make it drinkable. That, unfortunately, was a very short three weeks and then it was back home to the percolated paint remover I always remembered as coffee. This was in 1984. There was this one place on campus back home that served something called cappuccino but somehow it wasn’t the same.“

CoffeeGeek - Hamilton Beach Brew Station - Purliemae Wiggins's Review CoffeeGeek - Hamilton Beach Brew Station - Purliemae Wiggins's Review

„The fresh taste and flavor stay even after an hour.  However, as much as I like this coffeepot, I will be on my 3rd one.   If this new one goes out on me, three strikes and your out!  I will get a different brand with a carafe.“

CoffeeGeek - Bean There - Pt 4: Roasting & Blending Espresso CoffeeGeek - Bean There - Pt 4: Roasting & Blending Espresso

„This is not to suggest that it is almost impossible to produce good espresso but rather that it can only be done consistently when all the elements are understood and respected. In roasting and blending for espresso it is necessary to carefully choose quality coffee beans, to roast them to the proper point to develop the desired character. Espresso is almost always produced from a blend of coffees, the challenge is to blend them for refinement with strength and having harmony while allowing individual notes to sing out.“

CoffeeGeek - La Pavoni Europiccola - Simon Minkoff's Review CoffeeGeek - La Pavoni Europiccola - Simon Minkoff's Review

„The europiccola does not contain a thermometer to ensure the water is at a consistent temperature, rather it controls the pressure of steam above the water. (Pressure x volume is proportional to temperature.) It is therefore very important to expell all the air from above the water before using this machine, if there is air above the water then the pressure of the air above the water will push hot water through the coffee. You do not want this, you want to push the water past yourself.“

CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Machines and Grinders, Does it really taste like you're in Italy CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Machines and Grinders, Does it really taste like you're in Italy

„I think the taste that you're describing might be attributed to the type of milk that they're using.  They use a boxed, double pasturized milk with the Parmalat brand name rather than the fresh single pasturized milk that we buy here.  It has a distinct taste and foams differently.“
