„However, only 10% of the crop is arabica, and the number of quality beans available for the specialty coffee industry is limited. Even though they are a small percentage of total production, arabica coffees from this region are considered some of the best in the world, and are prized for their richness, full body, long finish, earthiness and gentle acidity.“

„Before I was an arabica whole bean convert, I once considered if these beans were worth the vast difference in price, which is as much as $3.00 to $7.00 more per pound than canned supermarket varieties. Surely the cost difference alone is enough to make one seriously reconsider any compelling reasons to switch to whole bean coffee. If you are a coffee lover, as I am, who savours the whole coffee making and drinking experience, then the answer is a resounding yes!“

„CAFFEINE is a small, bitter-tasting alkaloid. High-quality Arabica coffee beans (the source of most specialty coffees) are typically 1 percent caffeine by weight, whereas cheaper and more bitter Robusta beans have twice that amount.“

„In fairness, although most robusta coffee is of a lower grade and inferior to Arabica, there is a premium crop that is the top of the line for robusta beans. Premium robusta is primarily used in specialty espresso blends, and is never found in canned coffee. Though it only constitutes 5-15% of the blend, it is used because these beans add body to the taste and make a nice creama in the shot of espresso.“

„TransFair reasoned that it could appeal to "specialty" coffee consumers: buyers who pay top dollar for top-quality Arabica beans. Arabica coffee retails for about $10 a pound and comprises 15 to 25 percent of the total coffee market. TransFair's research showed that people who pay $10 a pound for coffee would not mind adding a dollar more to guarantee a fair trade price to small coffee farmers.“
