The 3 year-project that will close in December is being implemented by the Coffee Research Foundation (PROCAFE) and Salva Natura, a local NGO, associated with the Rain Forest Alliance, an institution that certifies the production of environmentally friendly. It is sponsoredby the World Bank and the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), In the present scenario of record decline in coffee prices, shade grown coffee represents a new option for coffee growers. According to project coordinator, Inés Maria Ortiz, "We have been able to create a platform for differentiating El Salvador's coffee, in such a way that we hope that the success achieved by the producers will encourage the development of a national policy in this area".“
