„Luis Norberto and his team of exceptional resident agronomists showed us round this exemplary farm. Popular media and consumer thinking in coffee is Big is bad, Small is good. We ourselves are guilty of this in respect of the Big Five Roasters whose purchasing policies leave much to be desired. People must begin to understand that some larger roasters are doing excellent work; often unheralded.“

„All that is history, but lots of Greek families still enjoy their coffee in this traditional way, just as the Brazilians take their cafezinho. The taste is not that different either, which can be easily understood just from walking past the exhibition stand of a traditional Greek trader. The Rio smell is unmistakable, and next to it, the more mysterious and undefined Santos aroma: all in all it’s a very educational experience for those who want to travel back a while in coffee history.“

„Once the farmers have chosen their beans, they send their samples to the competition headquarters well ahead of the formal competition cupping. Once the deadline has passed, a pre-screening jury selects the coffee samples that are good enough to move to the next round. Screening the samples through visual and cupping criteria is a big job, especially since the competition is free and open to any farmer who can meet the requirements. Receiving 400 samples for a competition is not uncommon.“
