„Our host was Milton Verdade Costa. Ipanema have an exclusive contract to supply Starbucks their Bourbon beans; and perhaps 20% of Ipanema's total production is sold to Starbucks. The impressive farm includes a magnificent guest house by a lake where we had lunch. Besides the exclusive Ipanema Bourbon, this company offers five other branded products, Ipanema Ouro Preto (washed), Ipanema Conquista (natural), Ipanema Gourmet (semi-washed), Ipanema Dulce (fine cup) & Ipanema Espresso.“

„Once the farmers have chosen their beans, they send their samples to the competition headquarters well ahead of the formal competition cupping. Once the deadline has passed, a pre-screening jury selects the coffee samples that are good enough to move to the next round. Screening the samples through visual and cupping criteria is a big job, especially since the competition is free and open to any farmer who can meet the requirements. Receiving 400 samples for a competition is not uncommon.“
