BSCA - Brazil Specialty Coffee Association ()

„The dry winters of the savannah highlands of Bahia and Northern Minas Gerais and their proximity to the Ecuator line yield highly aromatic coffees. The Cerrado highlands of Western Minas Gerais benefit from well defined seasons, uniform maturation and plenty of sunshine in the harvesting season to produce a round cup with perfect balance between body and acidity. The South Minas and Mogiana mountains are well known for coffees with very good body and aroma and a degree of natural sweetness not found elsewhere in the world.“

„Cinnamon and Hazelnut - Mild but very aromatic coffee - but hey! It's hazelnut, after all. Hazelnut rulez in terms of aroma. Actually, the taste of cinnamon was so much subdued by hazelnut that I could hardly get the taste of it.“

„For centuries aristocrats, persons of royal descent , and various lay- abouts with extra money and time on their hands, have been seduced by the aroma of freshly ground coffee. They all wanted that aromatic experience to be heightened into a flavor you could drink. The history of human attempts to seduce the aromatic essence of freshly roasted coffee into a cup is wildly inventive, producing machines of great visual beauty and a variety of clever approaches, all of which fell comically short of the goal.“

Does A Farmer's Choice of Products Affect Adoption of New Technologies? Does A Farmer's Choice of Products Affect Adoption of New Technologies?

„Conducted in the poor but agriculturallydiverse Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the studyuses statistical cluster analysis to identify farms by their productmix. Farms, assigned to groups according to the share of farmoutput devoted to a particular product, are divided into fivecategories: farms that produce coffee, corn products, dairy products, and rice; off-farm labor is the fifth category. These categoriesserve as a basis for examining the factors that influence adoptionof new technologies such as the size and scale of operation ofa farm, its expenditure on modern inputs, its degree of specialization(the diversity of its agricultural products), and the qualityof its land. Despite varying agroecological conditions, farmerscan readily change their product mix among coffee, corn, and dairyproducts, and off-farm labor, but rice requires flat, irrigatedland.“
