Brewing Faith and Coffee - Fair Trade Coffee Project - Lutheran World Relief (#)
„The coyotes offer farmers much needed cash—today—for beans later. It is only later that the farmers realize that they really did sell their coffee "for beans." Now they will not have enough money to make it to the next harvest, leaving them at the mercy of the coyote once again. The cycle, once in place, is very difficult to break. “

„By choosing fairly traded coffee over conventionally traded coffee, Lutherans ensure that the farmers, who grew those beans, are "guaranteed a fair price for their crop which will cover the cost of production as well as provide income necessary for their most basic human needs -- food, shelter, education and health care," Meier said. "It maintains the dignity of the farmer by giving them the means by which to earn a living rather than rely on charity and aid which is not a sustainable way to live."“

„Brewing great coffee is a simple process where flavor is extracted from ground coffee beans using hot water as the catalyst. But Dr. Brew says there is a craft to brewing good coffee; capturing all the color, aroma, body and great taste your customers deserve and expect.“

„Grind beans yourself if you have the time and means. Coffee stores better in the bean form. Fresh grounds produce a better tasting coffee.“

„No matter what coffee beans you use, the right grind for brewing great coffee depends on the brewing cycle of your coffee equipment. Dr. Brew recommends that if you don't know your equipment's brewing cycle, take a watch and time how long it takes for the water to pass through the grounds and fill the decanter.“

„Many of us have purchased the supermarket brands of pre-ground or whole bean coffees. The problem with these coffees is you can never be too sure how long the beans sit in those chutes and, as you know, exposure to air is an enemy of freshly roasted coffee beans. I recommend your specialty coffee purveyor, not to discredit your friendly grocer, but because specialty coffee retailers are solely in the business to sell coffee beans and therefore you can be more confident their beans are fresher because they move much more rapidly than supermarket beans.“
