„The importer, which is usually a major trading company, will then incur port and customs charges before the coffee moves to a large coffee roasting company. In the UK, where many people prefer instant coffee, the coffee beans go through a costly spray-drying or freeze-drying process. Alternatively, the coffee is roasted and ground to make filter coffee. Only then will the coffee tins and jars be filled, labelled and transported to the supermarket shelves or to the coffee shops.“

„During the first three weeks of January 1983, European fishing laws were in a state of limbo and during this time the UK enforced the Sea Fish (Specified UK Waters - Prohibition of Fishing) Order 1982. On January 23, the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) came into force giving equal access to fishing grounds to European countries, with quotas set by the Council of Ministers. So the British government had to lift the ban. Some 18 months later, in July 1984, Kent Kirk won his case against the British government in the European Court of Justice.“

„Business: The Company FileGM food bosses face roastingDespite the healthy look UK consumers have doubts about GM foodThe bosses of one of the world's leading biotechnology companies, Monsanto, are facing a rough ride from their shareholders. The Chief executive of the US-based group, Robert Shapiro, is likely to face criticism at his company's annual general meeting for mishandling the debate over genetically modified (GM) foods in Europe. Missouri-based Monsanto spent heavily on publicity in the UK but appears to have lost the battle for the hearts and minds of consumers wary of genetically altered foods.“
