The UK enjoyed a healthy trade surplus against euro-zone economies; evidence that, despite the travails of manufacturing, "UK Plc" continued to enjoy a period of relative buoyancy.“

Lower prices Craig Owen, from Oxfam Cymru, said: "Massive overproduction has pushed prices down to an all-time low with 25 million coffee producers facing ruin. "Four large coffee companies buy nearly half the world's crop and make huge profits but we calculate only around 5% of the retail price reaches the farmer.“

Coffee prices may rise because of the hurricaneEstimates of the damage have been hampered by the destruction of transport links, which has meant it has been impossible to reach the plantations to make an assessment. The road damage has also put the remainder of the crop at risk. Continual rain has sped up the ripening of the beans, which will rot if they cannot reach processing mills in time.“
