„World coffee prices are low because there is an oversupply of coffee, the world's second most valuable commodity after oil. Many coffee growers across the developing world have produced too much coffee which they have simultaneously released into the world market. The global supply is estimated to be about 8% above demand, according to Oxfam. This has depressed world prices.“

„Farmers have learned more about the quality of their coffee and why they get paid the prices they receive. Coffee buyers, roasting company owners, even the BBC have come through here in the last two weeks. Yasika Sur and the farmers I work with are indeed becoming an example of both crisis and possibility. Coffee drinkers are less willing to participate in deeply exploitative relationships.“

"If you were really sincere, for example, about doing something about GMOs in food, you wouldn't protest in front of Starbucks," says Mr Smith. "You would go to your supermarket, where 70% or more has GMO content, and try to make your case - because that could make a difference."
