BBC NEWS | Business | Why cheap beans don't make cheap coffee (#)
„The importer, which is usually a major trading company, will then incur port and customs charges before the coffee moves to a large coffee roasting company. In the UK, where many people prefer instant coffee, the coffee beans go through a costly spray-drying or freeze-drying process. Alternatively, the coffee is roasted and ground to make filter coffee. Only then will the coffee tins and jars be filled, labelled and transported to the supermarket shelves or to the coffee shops.“

Coffee buyers, roasting company owners, even the BBC have come through here in the last two weeks. Yasika Sur and the farmers I work with are indeed becoming an example of both crisis and possibility. Coffee drinkers are less willing to participate in deeply exploitative relationships.“

„The protective effect of tea is far from proven, and more well-designed, large-scale human studies are needed Thomas Lober, Cancer Research UK The presence of the chemicals was associated with a lower cancer risk, leading the US researchers to conclude they had cancer-preventing properties. Tea comes from the plant, Camellia sinensis, which is thought to contain extremely powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants are important because they combat the body's free radicals - charged particles, produced by the body, which can damage cells. It is thought that under a state of imbalance, or oxidative stress, cells may mutate and contribute to disease processes, including cancer.“
