„So what happens after the coffee arrives in the UK? The importer, which is usually a major trading company, will then incur port and customs charges before the coffee moves to a large coffee roasting company. In the UK, where many people prefer instant coffee, the coffee beans go through a costly spray-drying or freeze-drying process. Alternatively, the coffee is roasted and ground to make filter coffee.“

Lower prices Craig Owen, from Oxfam Cymru, said: "Massive overproduction has pushed prices down to an all-time low with 25 million coffee producers facing ruin. On January 23, the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) came into force giving equal access to fishing grounds to European countries, with quotas set by the Council of Ministers. So the British government had to lift the ban. Some 18 months later, in July 1984, Kent Kirk won his case against the British government in the European Court of Justice.“
