BBC Liverpool - Nature - The Sands of Time (#)
„The underlying rocks across the whole region from the Pennines to Snowdonia were affected by the tectonic movements associated with the final opening of the Atlantic Ocean between Europe and North America about 60 million years ago. Many of the smaller faults caused by these stresses and strains show up on the path as thin parallel veins of a harder white material, quartz, which is more resistant to erosion than the sandstone.“

„Many years ago meteorologists thought that the rain bearing depressions that invade us from the Atlantic, formed at the sea level and "grew" up through the atmosphere. It now seems more likely that they start to form around the jet streams and percolate downwards.“

„In the Ordovician Period, Rhobell Fawr, in the Arennig Mountain range in Snowdonia, was an active volcano surrounded by a shallow sea. As it erupted, rocks from deep underground were heated and pressurized as water percolated through the ground. The heat of the water dissolved metals from the rocks, and these were redeposited as metal ores such as copper and gold.“

„I pay tribute to those who have worked with such determination to do so. "Despite the genuine difficulties still to be overcome on all sides, I believe these events provide solid grounds for new hope and fresh confidence." President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Reverend Kenneth Wilson also welcomed the developments. He called on everyone to work together to build peace and stability for the people of the province. Unionists still considering offer The Ulster Unionists are still considering whether the IRA's statement on arms is enough to persuade them to return to the executive.“

„A judge ruled that although EC regulations gave Parma ham a protected "designation of origin", they did not include the strict Italian rules on slicing and packaging. The ruling is a victory for Asda in its battle with the powerful Parma ham trade association, Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma. A victory for AsdaAsda celebrated its win by setting up a Parma ham stall on the pavement outside the court in London with a placard describing the case as "the barmy Parma drama." According to Italian law, the ham must be fully prepared for sale in the Parma region of the Po Valley under the control of the Consorzio, which has police-like powers to enforce compliance with the rules.“

„I must admit I was not expecting to like this record. Firstly, the accompanying press release suggests that it's "headed for coffee tables everywhere". As I don't have a coffee table, I felt a bit disenfranchised. Also the opening track was set to be a cover of "Blue Moon", a song for which I've long harboured an unreasonable hatred.“
