BBC - History - Portrait Miniature of Elizabeth I, by Nicholas Hilliard (#)
„This role-playing reached a pitch at the Accession Day ceremonial jousts, at which the queen demonstrated her power by receiving the homage of her knights. Each courtier would present her with a shield bearing an'impressa', a combination of picture and motto'borne by noble personages...to notify some particular conceit', usually their devotion to the queen.“

„A small ceremonial carpet is spread out on the floor upon which is placed the rekobot, a wooden tray containing a number of small porcelain cups. Water is brought to the boil on a charcoal stove and an iron pan - the baret metad - is used to roast the fresh, green coffee beans - the buna. When the beans are roasted the pan is carried round the room for the guests to inhale the fragrance. The beans are then transferred onto a stone block and crushed into granules.“

„You'll learn more things about coffee than you'll ever want to know. Stewart makes astute analogies between ancient ceremonial coffee drinking habits with today's practice of drinking coffee with business meetings. His numerous and humorous observations about coffee are refreshing. He brings new life to the old and tired subject of coffee.“
