„The most fascinating are those which suggest the contradictions and surprises that the city throws up; for instance the sound of a nightingale straining to be heard over the throb of an electricity substation, or the gentle creaks and sploshes of moored canal barges. There's more poetry in the banal; the sound of onions frying, coffee machines or mail coming through the letterbox. Some of these sounds are surprisingly moving; evidence of real life amongst the hiss of traffic and the squeak of escalators. There's even a spot of nostalgia with the once familiar tattoo of massed train doors being shut, a sound which Cusack ruefully notes is disappearing from London's mainline stations to be replaced by the gentle sibilances of automatic doors.“

„Rob van Dam, who led the research, said: "In view of the widespread use of coffee and the large health burden of type 2 diabetes, our finding of an inverse association between coffee consumption and risk of type 2 diabetes could have important public-health implications. "However, our findings need to be replicated and possible adverse effects on other health aspects should be considered in the choice to consume coffee." He told BBC News Online: "It has been shown over and over again that caffeine lowers insulin sensitivity. But they only study people for a few hours. Exercise and diet "If you look over several days, then there's not such a clear effect - a tolerance of caffeine could develop.“
