Backflushing methods: You can use either a special backflush filterbasket (a filterbasket with no holes) or a rubber backflush disk that you insert in your double filterbasket to stop the flow ofwater. „ Machines with electric 3 way solenoid's should only be backflushed with a blind filter basket, about every 200 shots, but then only after cleaning the dispersion screen and gasket first. Backflushing is hard on electric 3 way valves, that’s why it shouldn’t be done more frequently. Machines like the Silvia should be backflushed only a couple times per year. „These machines usually come with a Null Filter - a portafilter that snaps into the coffee handle with no holes in it. That means you can put a little coffee cleaner (Cafiza ) into it, put it into the brew head, turn on the machine for 30+ seconds, and backflush! If your machine has no 3 Way Valve, no worries. „I just ordered a new pump because of this exact problem. Originally I thought my OPV setting was drifting because my backflush pressure went down ~1/4 bar. It turns out that the "sand" (resin) leaked into the line and some made it to the pump so it has been steadily degrading over time. I generally backflush with Cafiza every other week or so, because there's really no need to do so more often, for me anyway.
