„Frau Sara Potter, go here, under Kaffekategorian, the blend you are looking for is the French roast (Bold koffee) they tell me you can buy it through them. Good luck. http://www.starbucksgermany.com/de/produkte_bold.html Frederick.“

„One, the Eight O'Clock Bean Coffee Dark Roast, was strikingly inexpensive at 23 cents an ounce but as decent a version of the extreme dark-roast profile as many specialty French roasts that sell for twice as much. The same low-grade, musty coffees may inhabit this bag as fill the red bags of the medium-roast "original" Eight O'Clock Bean Coffee reviewed earlier, but aggressive dark-roasting does wonders for low-grade Indonesia coffees, as many a specialty roaster knows. At 32 cents per ounce, the Trader Joe's French Roast was more expensive than the Eight O'Clock Bean Dark Roast but even more intense in its bittersweet expression.“

„Brew: Deep brown with slightly sharp aroma finish. Smooth, with sharp aroma of dark roast but no bitterness. It’s as smooth as the roasters claim: unlike most French Roasts, I can drink a whole pot of this, non-stop, without ODing on the dark roast quality.“

„Even if you plan to grind at home, use this test to stereotype the quality of the entire coffee operation. Same Style Of Roasting Does every coffee bean at the roaster look like French roast? A skilled roaster will know that every crop has a sweet spot; some beans are best when roasted lighter and some best when roasted dark. A Colombian may excel at a Vienna Roast, but roasting Ethiopian Yirgacheffe that dark is a crime.“

„But that doesn't affect the brand new roaster who knows what they used to drink in a little Café in France and starts roasting a medium dark French Roast, nor does it affect the old time family-owned roaster who never even heard of the SCAA. If they have a coffee that has been their Italian Roast for 50 years, then it doesn't matter if the proper name of said roast on the SCAA chart is French or Viennese or Full City or whatever, it's still Italian Roast to them. So the confusion isn't likely to dissipate soon.“

„On the road. Picked up some Millstone French Roast. Strong stuff, with a powerful roasty flavor. Great in small quantities, for me, but overwhelming in a big mug!“
