„Russo's prose, admittedly is better than Walley's, but the text is essentially a watered down version of Slavin's superior biography. The only interesting aspects of the book are collected newspaper clippings (most of which are illegible) and assorted photos, although they feature none of the bands from the latee 70s and 80s. By far the worst aspect of the book though is Russo's attempts at deciphering conceptual continuity, which run: '"Zomby Woof" is a corruption of "Zombie Wolf"' No! Really?“

„It is a measure of the excellence of Budden's achievement that this cornucopia of information is surveyed in very readable prose--readers get a picture of each work within its context. Budden's knowledge of 19th-century opera--both in Italy and in France--is wide-ranging, and he is able to place Verdi and his works in comparison with those of Donizetti, Pacini, Mercadante, and Meyerbeer. He discusses how the great operatic genius emerged from the background of early-19th-century opera and how Verdi's own early, uneven works blossomed into the glory of his later ones. Budden, thankfully, is not a hagiographer, and he recognizes Verdi's faults as well as his strengths, but few--if any--writers have managed to demonstrate how Verdi both blended in with his musical surroundings and stood out from them.“

„From the standard, ponderous Icelandic/English dictionary of his time, Zoega (1857-1928) abstracted those words of Old Icelandic that scholars of the medieval prose writings would be likely to run into and not recognize from any knowledge they might have of modern Icelandic. He has left out the purely poetic vocabulary--excepting the Edda poems, of course--and a number of compounds occurring only in legal, theological, or technical works; such borders blur however, he admits, and has included rather than excluded the questionable when possible. More often than not, he quotes a passage showing the usage.“

„The medium roast seems to be the best of the admittedly lackluster selection of Douwe Egberts coffee pods designed for the Senseo. I find the mild pods to be virtually flavorless. The dark roast doesn't really improve upon the flavor of the medium, but does manage to be a bit more bitter and rough around the edges.“

„RESPONSE: Admittedly, the market for Fair Trade coffee is much smaller than the production capacity of the registered cooperatives. On average, cooperatives sell only a portion of their coffee on the Fair Trade market and channel the balance through conventional markets. The cooperatives are generally able to manage the export themselves, which means the conventional sales will still be more direct than using the normal routing through local middlemen. That some of their coffee is Fair Trade, with a guaranteed price, also provides the cooperatives with some leverage in their dealings with other markets.“

„Needless to say, the whole thing becomes an international comedy of errors. Allen is an elegant prose stylist, providing countless insights about people and his beloved brew: ``Turkish coffee is like a clenched fist in a cup, tight, bitter, and black. The Yemen version, which comes glowing golden in a large glass tumbler, is a lighter, whimsical brew, deliciously sweet.'' In Vienna, Allen discovers how the invading Ottoman Turks brought coffee to Europe, transforming the whole continent. The author describes precaffeinated Europe as deadly dull, ``a lot like Nebraska on a slow weekendchurch or beer.'' Coffee was a harbinger for European political reform, especially in England and France.“
