Amazon.com: Books: Bolivia (Oxfam Country Profiles) ()

„Normally, 'Oxfam Country Profiles are enticing, enlightening and well worth the price of the purchase - not this one. This Oxfam Profile doesn't live up to the engaging style, nor the insight, of other Oxfam Country Profiles that I have read; such as John Crabtree's - Peru (see my review).“

Amazon.com: Books: Programming for the Java(TM) Virtual Machine Amazon.com: Books: Programming for the Java(TM) Virtual Machine

„Although this book gives some useful insights on compiling other languages into JVM bytecode, it doesn't present any revolutionary concepts. It is not an expert or comprehensive reference by any means and wastes way too many pages on explaining the syntax of the oolong language rather than the workings of the JVM itself. For instance the bytecodes generated and the behaviour of the 'finally' clause in isolation is explained, but not in conjuction with exceptions which it is most commonly used. Unfortunately, like so many other Java references, it resorts to wasting pages on printing Java APIs (in particular the security APIs) when Javadoc in html form is so much more efficient to read.“

Amazon.com: Books: Grace by the Cup: A Break from the Daily Grind Amazon.com: Books: Grace by the Cup: A Break from the Daily Grind

„From the first page to the last I kept thinking of coffee drinkers who will love this book. Thanks to Dumont's insight and style, I forgot I didn't like coffee and enjoyed the devotionals far more than I thought I would. The anecdotes in Grace by the Cup lifted my spirit, but more importantly, they drew me closer to God.“

Amazon.com: Books: Geometry of Design: Studies in Proportion and Composition Amazon.com: Books: Geometry of Design: Studies in Proportion and Composition

„Kimberly Elam takes the reader on a geometrical journey, lending insight and coherence to the design process by exploring the visual relationships that have foundations in mathematics as well as the essential qualities of life. Geometry of Design-the first book in our new Design Briefs Series-takes a close look at a broad range of twentieth-century examples of design, architecture, and illustration (from the Barcelona chair to the Musica Viva poster, from the Braun handblender to the Conico kettle), revealing underlying geometric structures in their compositions. Explanations and techniques of visual analysis make the inherent mathematical relationships evident and a must-have for anyone involved in graphic arts. The book focuses not only on the classic systems of proportioning, such as the golden section and root rectangles, but also on less well known proportioning systems such as the Fibonacci Series.“

Amazon.com: Books: BLUE ANGEL Amazon.com: Books: BLUE ANGEL

„I found this book an enjoyable and informative read, though at times presented romantically and subjectively. The author does a fine job presenting Dietrich from many angles, truly fleshing her out (Spoto is irritatingly fond of the word "plump" to describe Dietrich's early adulthood)... Spoto seems to approach his subject with celestial reverence, as though trying to conceal his own crush behind a web of historical voyeurism (the discussion of debauched 1920s Berlin is particularly gratifying and grounding). Sometimes he speculates too much on possible motivations instead of simply offering the facts, but he also makes good use of others' reminiscences of Dietrich to back up some of his insightful conjectures.“
