A Little Something About the Big "S" (#)
„Schultz's vision of coffee and community was formed during a trip to Italy in 1983. The espresso bars of Milan and Verona were teeming with people stopping in for good coffee and some company. Bring this to the U.S., Schultz thought, and people will definitely come. Already an employee in Starbucks' marketing department, Schultz pitched his superiors on the coffee bar concept, but they weren't receptive.“

„In this rain-soaked city about as far as you can get from Italy in the continental United States, the seeds of a coffee revolution were planted. Howard Schultz made his now-legendary visit to the espresso bars of Milan in 1983 and convinced the founders of Starbucks to test his new coffee bar concept in downtown Seattle the following year. Soon after, Mauro Cipolla began roasting his Neapolitan-inspired Caffe D'arte blends; Umberto Bizzarri brought his family's Perugia roots to Torrefazione Italia in 1986; and in 1988, David Schomer opened Espresso Vivace - all in the city eventually dubbed "Latte Land."“

„“First Colony has always provided the best in coffee and equipment. We’re putting in new coffee bars in our stores using their recommendation of Cimbali espresso machines and so far, the two we’ve opened… one in Willow Brook, New Jersey, and the other in Orlando, are running successfully. First Colony helped us early on to develop a system of cross-merchandising coffee. If customers enjoyed our coffee in our restaurants, we wanted to be able to sell it to them.“
